Visiting Service

Minimising Isolation and loneliness in our Community

If you are feeling lonely, or would just like more social contact, it’s important to do something about it, and Age Concern Horowhenua can help.

What is The Visiting Service?

Our Visiting Service provides regular weekly visits to older people who would like more company, to reduce social isolation and loneliness.  Matches are made carefully, on the basis of personality, shared interests, cultural needs, and location, and are regularly reviewed by our Team.

Visits can take place in the client’s home, or involve going out together to enjoy shared interests and activities.

Risks Of Loneliness & Social Isolation

Loneliness is a known risk factor for health problems like cardiovascular disease, depression, dementia, and lowered resistance to infection.

Research says that weak social relationships influence health as much as smoking and alcohol consumption, and more than obesity and physical inactivity.

About Our Volunteer Visitors

Our visitors are volunteers, who are keen to spend time with an older person for about an hour each week to enjoy conversation and shared interests and activities.

Our visitors are police checked and fully trained, and come from a variety of backgrounds and ages but all have the same passion to make a difference and brighten someone's day.

We will always find the right person for you!

So, Would you or someone you know, benefit from some extra company?
